I just got back from two weeks in Australia with my family. We had a wonderful time, climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge, touring Sydney, diving the Great Barrier Reef, hiking around the outback in Central Australia and a quick trip to the wine country in Southern Australia. It's winter in Australia, high's around 63 ish and lows around 50.
I'm embarassed to admit, I did not pack appropriately. I had five pairs of shorts, sandals, espadrilles, flip flops, three swimsuits, t-shirts, and a couple of sundresses. None of which was practical for hicking the outback. What was I thinking? Having left New York City in the 90's with 98% humidity, it was hard to pull out sweaters and long sleeved anything. I'm wearing the same long sleeved shirt and jeans in almost every picture with the exception of the Great Barrer Reef sweatshirt I had to buy because I was cold.
Having been a flight attendant for 25 years, I pride myself in my packing ability. I used to be able holiday in Europe with a carry on. I know how to pack efficiently. I'm the queen of mini travel sized everything.
When did I become the kind of gal that has to have a HEAVY tag attached to her checked luggage? I want to be somewhat fashionable when traveling and I don't want to wear the same shoes everyday. I make sure items are multi-tasking: day-to-evening, layering, dress it up, dress it down. I think the older I get the more I appreciate choices and even though I didn't pack what I should have packed I did pack what I wanted to pack. And I did have nice shoes. I'll know better next time.
